When Severus Snape is tasked with giving Harry Potter his acceptance letter his initial instinct is to refuse, when however he learns of the events surrounding this task he agrees, if only to see what would happen. 

He tracks the boy to a place far from his reported Dwelling of No. 4 Privet Drive, indeed he finds a boy utterly different than he would have expected, eventually he realises, Abus Dumbledore is not prepared for this boy, indeed it seems what little of the plan he knew was already failed.
