The First Jumper (first draft version)
This is the first draft, and will remain free on Wattpad. The revised version has now been published! An alien explorer meets disaster on ancient Earth, and must invade the body of a primitive human to survive, creating great difficulties for the alien, the human, and the human community, as an impending ice age threatens survival for everyone. This story is a prequel to the short story, "The Jumper." This was my National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) novel for 2014. Elodie's life changes at the turn of a doorknob when she is forced into joining a secret organization that claims to be protecting the Earth from aliens. But with every step she takes, she finds the organization, or the facility, as they call it, becoming more and more suspicious. When a mysterious death occurs, revealing a well-concealed secret, things quickly go downhill as humanity's future is placed on the shoulders of a single gaggle of teenagers. *** I hear a sigh from the other side of the door, "Miss. Chaucer, you have a wonderful opportunity here, are you going to take it or not?" Now, I am seriously confused, "Opportunity?" She takes advantage of my befuddled state and shoves the door open. Shit. The corners of her mouth pull up, and it's so unnatural, it takes me a moment to realize she's smiling. Major plastic surgery? Probably. Click. Did she just lock the door? She locked the door! I spring towards the house phone, dusty from years of doing absolutely nothing, so I can call the police. I don't make it. Halfway there, I trip on my own pant-leg and face plant on the floor. The woman steps over me and retrieves the phone. She looks at it as if it's a foreign object, "This won't be necessary. All I want to do is talk to you." For some reason, instead of screaming, I stay silent. She smiles and pulls out a chair from the kitchen table for me to sit on. When I don't sit, she says, "If you want to know what's going on, then sit." I think about it for a moment. She hasn't hurt me yet, and I have to admit, I am quite curious as to what's going on. So, call me stupid, but I sit down. "I am from a space organization that protects civilians from . . . outside threats." *** Beautiful cover made by @mahana258! Mistletoe
One sentence can change everything. Furthermore one sentence can determine your role. Friend? Or stranger? May made a mistake in her 2nd year of middle school. She accidentally told Drew something she shouldn't have. And then she lied to him, causing him to change into the man he is now. They are now in highshcool. But they are farther apart than the Sun and Earth. Their paths haven't crossed since then...and it seems like, they will never cross again. But some people just wouldn't let it end there. On a hostile planet with a destroyed core and plagued by a toxic storm, a story lives, among many others. This one in particular, though, is a story of a stranger, who's stranded on this hostile planet for...unknown reasons; a girl, who teaches her the ropes and helps her survive, as well as a few other characters they meet along the way. Every moment is a moment where their lives may be suddenly cut short, every moment a moment to tread carefully, to be cautious, to try to stretch the remaining time in their life out just a little longer for a purpose unknown to them. This is a fanfic based in the universe of the Roblox game "Decaying Winter." ☆ Featured on Science Fiction and ONC Longlist ☆ Earth's orbit is broken, sending the planet soaring into the depths of space. ~ A horrific miscalculation by scientists had predicted a rogue star passing by Earth ten thousand years late. Instead, the star blasted past Earth and its gravity snagged the planet much too early, dragging it off of its orbit around the Sun. As the days pass, the Sun gets further and further away. Light dims. Warmth seeps away. The snow began within a month. Three months later, and it's a constant blizzard. There's no hope for survival on the planet's surface. As time passes, the cold will only get worse. However, there's rumors of a place where there is heat. Heat means life. Logically, there is a capacity limit for this haven, and everyone knows it. It becomes a deadly race to see who can get there first.Complete
