In a world with magic for the few who possess the OS gene, 21-year-old witch, Marianne must navigate the aftermath of the mysterious departure of her long time mentor, Virginia, leaving her tasked with the overwhelmingly annoying responsibility of her new apprentice, Virginia's niece, 14-year-old Lily.  Lily may not know a lot about magic but she knows absolutely everything about getting under Marianne's skin, especially balancing the girl's seemingly complete inability to perform any spells with the dangerous magical outbursts that call into question everything Marianne thought she knew about the world they live in.
