Beleth Eisner had always been a relatively normal person. At least as normal as a child raised without knowledge of the outside world could be. But her twin brother Byleth is strange. No heartbeat. No emotions.

A chance encounter leads to the twins and their father returning to Garreg Mach Monastery, where Byleth begins to feel emotions for the first time. And while Beleth has felt emotions before, being around people her own age is a first for her.
