When Rhiannon Valdez, aspiring medical student and science geek, gets engaged to Theodore Hathaway, son of the millionaire entrepreneur, she was told to expect drama. But nothing could have prepared her for this.

Shortly after their engagement, Theodore and Rhiannon attend a celebration held by his family to recognize his long-dead grandfather. Rhiannon receives a less-than-enthusiastic welcome from Theodore's father Alistair and his sisters Seraphine and Millicent. But the atmosphere changes abruptly when, early the next morning, Alistair is found dead- and Rhiannon shifts from simply being the undesirable fiancee to being suspected as a possible murderess.

With the help of Sylvie Stein, an intern reporter with an eidetic memory and a knack for discovery, Rhiannon sets out to prove her innocence- and to enforce justice for Alistair Hathaway.

Water is the reason her sister is dead, and the reason she almost died. Hope can't remember what happened the night of the tragedy, but everyone assures her she couldn't have done anything to save her sister. Juliet Price has attended Redwood High since the beginning of sophomore year, but she's never spoken to Hope, Juliet doesn't fit in with her classmates as she wasn't born rich and she didn't grow up getting everything she wanted. The only reason Juliet is at the exclusive private school is because she's living with her wealthy aunt and uncle. Juliet knows what happened to Eleanor Flynn, most of the world does. The Flynn family are very wealthy and very famous. Even though Juliet and Hope have never spoken, Juliet can tell that Hope is acting weird and she doesn't think it's entirely because Eleanor is dead. When Juliet and Hope are brought together through a class project, Juliet starts to realize that Hope won't be able to start moving on unless she finds out what happened the night her sister died, and why she can't remember it. When the two start investigating, they realize that the truth is pointing to something dark. Almost everyone attending Redwood has secrets, and they'll do what it takes to keep them private. When the truth starts to come out, Hope is left to wonder if she remembers the dreadful night and finds out she had something to do with it, will she ever forgive herself?

[Ambys 2022: Mystery/Thriller Winner] Discovering a dead body just minutes from her cottage in the trees is the last thing Dray Dinley expects upon moving to the remote town of Hero. Being convinced by the town outcast and suspected murderer, Wells Walden, to join him in playing detective is even farther down that list, but here she is ignoring every red flag in the book. Dray thinks she finally found a spot to settle down and expand her freelance photography business, but instead stumbles upon a quiet town bursting with secrets. Unable to steer away from her desire to dig deeper, Dray follows Wells into a puzzle of stories dripping in danger, unexpected family connections, and years of manipulation. Despite Wells being at the center of it all, Dray can't fight the pull to stay by his side and sleuth her way to reveal the true story of Hero.
