Iris is 14 years old and has been able to read minds since she was born. Her life with her parents is peaceful until one day she is kidnapped by, Queen Zia of the country Masqueera. She fights for her life as well as her parents when something happens, something that changes her whole life. It opens her eyes to how things really are.

Small excerpt:
I walk out onto our small porch. We own a small house in the middle of the mountains. for other people it would never be enough, a small house in the middle of nowhere, but for us it's perfect. we're away from people and that's all I care about. they wreak havoc, destruction and bring grief on themselves and anyways, my mind reading is unheard of and I'd rather keep it that way. We are at least 20 miles from the closest village which mother usually visits once a week to buy food. I only go unless I have to, which isn't very often. Some of the people are nice, definitely not the kids. mother says I need to make friends, that I if I don't ill turn into one of those people who become lonely and slowly fall into drugs and alcohol. I know she's probably exaggerating to scare me but I think I'll be just fine alone. I always work better alone when no one is distracting me.
