"I could always feel the sun on my face. I saw trees all around me, the scent against wildflowers into a breeze. He was always so beautiful. In that moment, I'm not stranded in space. He's been 97 years since a nuclear apocalypse killed everyone into earth, leaving the planet simmering in radiation. Well... that's what we thought. There were other survivors. 12 nations had operational space stations against the time against the bombs. In space is where our group resides. The ark was our salvation. One station forged from the many. Us were told the earth needs another 100 years to become survivable again. Before more space-locked generations everyone could go home, back from the ground. The ground, that was the dream. But now we're here, eight child prisoners who were cast away in order to see if the rest could come down to the ground and survive. But where are the others? They're still up there and now we decide if they should come down or not."
An AU where only Clarke and 7 other delinquents came to the ground to see if it was survivable to save everyone on the Ark only to find out that there are others already on the ground. Together they create peace with the grounders, but the real test is to keep that when the rest of the Ark comes down. Can they keep the peace and help lead their people in surviving?

BOOK I: The Reasons - the ground is unforgiving. So is survival. Madison Cameron was born in space, a child of the Ark, never feeling the sun on her skin or breathing the fresh, unfiltered air of Earth. She's never experienced the sensation of water, the way it would flow against her or lap around her as she swam. For three generations, humanity has clung to the Ark, floating in the cold vacuum of space, its fragile walls the only barrier between them and extinction. The Ark was all they knew-sterile, artificial, far from the dangers and beauty of Earth below. But now, the Ark is dying. It can't sustain them much longer. They are the last hope of mankind, a fragile chance for survival. The Earth they land on, however, is nothing like they imagined. It's not a fresh start or paradise - it's a nightmare. The air is toxic, wildlife monstrous, and every step is a battle for survival. The Earth is alive, but it's unforgiving. Amidst this chaos, Madison and Bellamy Blake find themselves at the forefront, taking on the roles of leaders. Both carry the heavy weight of responsibility, knowing that the survival of the remaining human race rests in their hands. They both strive to protect their people, to do whatever it takes to ensure their survival. But where Madison is focused on the harsh reality of survival-pragmatic, calculating, determined to keep them alive - Bellamy's vision is driven by something more abstract: freedom. They clash over their ideals - her need for structure, his thirst for freedom - and every time their paths cross, the tension between them makes their already perilous situation even more volatile. Yet, the Earth continues to test them. It doesn't care about their petty squabbles or their hopes for a better future. The planet doesn't care about Madison's desire for control or Bellamy's lust for freedom. It only cares about one thing: survival.
