Lucus Smith is a 21-year-old gay man, who has just aced his three-month evaluation to become a full firefighter for Ladder 33, where he has been working since he graduated from the academy three months ago. He gets along with most of the guys at Ladder 33, but one who is constantly cold toward Lucus, and he does not understand why. Lucus has a 4-year-old son, Logan Smith, who stays with Lucus' older brother and brother-in-law while Lucus is on his shifts at the station. Lucus was raised by his brother and brother-in-law after his parents kicked him out when he told them he was gay at 14-years-old. 

Morgan Brown is a 23-year-old gay man, who just graduated from the 5-year accelerated law program at UCLA, and is now working at Liam Smith's law firm as a junior lawyer. He meets Lucus and Logan through Liam.
