This world- so liberal with their praise to your face, but covertly hungering for your downfall.
Once upon a time, I was a hero. I wasn't one for the attention or the admiration associated with the role- rather, I was a hero, simply because no one else was willing to be.
I gave and gave and gave, until there was no more of me left to give. Then, having outlived my usefulness, I was cast aside, left to walk this crumbling plank into the uncertain darkness, driven into a dead end. Forced to walk a path no demigod would ever want to take, forced to give up a life that I had sacrificed so much for.
I'm sorry, Mom. I never got the happy ending you intended for me.
