In a small town in Pennsylvania set in 2011, Sara Ward is a depressed 14-year-old girl who is from a dysfunctional family. She grew up with an abusive alcoholic father and a mother who was barely home. Her brother was her only friend along with Jason Byrd who are both freshmen at their high school. One day after going on a trip to the Poconos with the Byrds and Wards families, a horrible car accident occurs killing Jason's parents and Sarah's brother, and her mother. Jason outraged starts to drink along with Sarah's mother due in order to cope with their own depression, resulting in a spiral of abuse towards innocent Sara. About a year later, Jason drags Sara to the woods after school and starts beating her while he's drunk causing Sara to lose consciousness. Unfortunately, when Sara wakes up, she discovers that she is stuck in the woods forever and has to learn how to live with the others trapped in the woods.
