"He caught me from falling." she pointed out.
Macy looked at her then, trying to gauge her reaction, but Lilly's face gave nothing away. She could feel the apprehension in her stomach tighten even more.
"Did he say anything else?" she asked.
"No, we just exchanged numbers but I haven't called him yet."
Lilly didn't reply, her hands still kneading the dough. The timer on the oven interrupted them before Macy could say anything else. Reaching across the table, she grabbed another cookie sheet and spread her dough on top, flattening it with the spatula.
"Oh Macy," Lilly finally said. "I don't know. After what we told you this morning, I'm surprised you still want to talk to him. I didn't think you'd trust his words over ours. Be reasonable honey."
That gave her pause for a moment, her hand still on the spatula. After what Sophie had confessed in private, Macy realized that she had been right. There were a lot of things that Lilly and Robert were still keeping from her.
Well, she decided. If they didn't want to tell her, fine. She'd find out on her own. Taking out her phone, she scrolled down to the last incoming call, selecting it and quickly typed out a text.
No. Reasonableness had nothing to do with this.

But when a handsome stranger saves her one morning, a stranger who apparently her friends have never mentioned but seems to know her well, Macy realizes must uncover the truth herself.
