That day, night had fallen upon the sky like a wrathful god. The heavens blackened to pitch, the clouds greyed into smoke; he had watched as the sun slipped down under the horizon, leaving dusk behind, and remained gazing out the window until all he could see was his reflection. He had stared for stars, looked for the moon to watch as the carriage rolled onwards for miles where the moon hung forever in place - but it was not there. There was only himself, the large watery blue eyes of his younger self becoming somehow disquieting the longer he stared. --- Art for cover found on tumblr via @ beanefiel

The vision always came with the same crushing clarity: a sky torn open, fire raining down, and the earth trembling as oceans rose to swallow cities whole. For years, Mara thought she was meant to stop it. It was her burden, her divine punishment, to bear the sight of humanity's end and avert it. But that night, something changed. In the heart of the vision, where the chaos spiraled outward, she saw herself-arms raised, eyes alight with power she didn't yet understand. She wasn't a savior; She was the spark. And as much as she wanted to be horrified, a quiet part of her wondered what it would feel like to finally let it burn.
