In a world torn between heroes and villains, it can be a dangerous and hostile place.  Some take comfort in the Gifted that stand up against those who would use their powers for greed and chaos.  While others choose to hide away, fearful of the day when they'll become a superpowered battle's collateral damage.

Elaina Hart has a quiet life in the safe embrace of her forest home.  She lives off the land, relying on the gifts of the earth to sustain her simple, quiet existence.  Amongst the trees, where there is nothing for a villain to gain and no evil for a hero to vanquish, she is safe from the troubles of the more populated urban centers.  At least she was until two Gifted rivals take their brawl above her woods.

When one of the superpowered combatants is knocked down a little ways from her home, Elaina brings him to the safety of her cabin -- successfully inserting herself into the world of the Gifted, a world she had spent years trying to escape.

This is further proven by the sudden appearance of enhanced individuals nicknamed "Blights," which single-handedly explains the general consensus about them. Hated and oppressed, Blights have had their backs against the wall for decades. When Evita starts asking questions Evelyn Sheer, the head of the city's Department of Energy, takes her captive and places her in a secret, underground research facility. Evelyn Sheer and the researchers are trying to create a genetic modification that enables humans to photosynthesize. Once in the facility, Evita is tagged as a test subject and loses all say over what happens to her body. She has to escape. By the time she comes up with a plan there is only one problem. Evita isn't ready to leave.
