A long time ago, when she was a baby, Mrs Greenfield saved Olympia's life. The pendant she wore around her neck is a gift and reminder of that time. After this incident in Olympia's parents' minds, no errand was too big to repay this old woman's heroic act of kindness. Growing up, Olympia was encouraged to help Mrs Greenfield, to do the chores around her old antique home and to keep her company so that she didn't feel the loneliness of old age.

In recent times, a spate of burglaries had disrupted the peace of the city. After disturbing intruders in her own house on her 16th birthday, Olympia stayed with Mrs Greenfield to make sure she was safe. One of the things she loved doing most when Mrs Greenfield was fast asleep was looking through the old ladies albums and musing about what life must have been like in the past. One night she falls asleep with the album in her arms and wakes up to a time when World War II erupted, one of the deadliest periods in history. She immediately recognises some of the people and places from the past in the faces of people in the community. Their faces resemble those in Mrs Greenfield’s album. She has always felt drawn to the small white framed Kodak pictures in the well thumbed album so it is no surprise when Olympia quickly adjusts to the new time period, connecting strongly with the people she meets there and in particular with Charlie whose face she was unable to forget.

At first, it doesn't seem so important that Olympia has no idea about how to get back to the present. As dramatic events unfold and the danger of the war approaches Australian shores, it soon becomes obvious that the longer she stays in the past the greater risk to the people she has grown to love. Getting back is a problem she has to solve alone as Mrs Greenfield is nowhere in sight.

The story is the debut novel of Maria Papazoglou and it is set within the magical version of Melbourne.

A "Beauty and the Beast" retelling. Once upon a time, there was a boy in love with a Lilly. Not a flower, but a girl. It all started one beautiful autumn day. One autumn day that would change the boy's life forever. For on this day, he met Lilly, a beautiful girl with an ugly secret. A secret that threatens to destroy her if she cannot find a way to break the curse forced upon her. Filled with secrets, lies, and love, this short story captures the essence of the original fairy tale with an entirely new twist. ~~~ "Hello, my name is Lilly. What's yours? Is that your mother? I only just came to live here with Ivy, and I don't know many people that come to visit her yet. Do you come often? If you do, we could be friends! Would you like that? To be friends? Why, don't you speak at all? And you should really close your mouth; it is impolite to stare like that." Ivy called out to her from the doorway of the cottage. "Lilly, if you want him to speak, you must first cease speaking." Both of the women were laughing at the children, and Lilly blushed at the comment. "Sorry! I just haven't seen anyone my age yet, and I got excited, which happens rather easily. It reminds me a bit of puppies I've read about that just get so excited that they- oops. I'm doing it again. Sorry," she said with a shy smile. Adam, who had been standing there staring, just as she had pointed out, finally found his voice long enough to tell her his name. She beamed at him, saying that they would be great friends. She seized his hand and began tugging him toward the woods behind the cottage, shouting to Ivy and his mother, "We won't go far! Be back soon!" ~~~

*"Move, weirdo." She glanced at him and sighed. "Feel free to move if you want to, there's so much room." He raised his eyebrows in surprise. Firstly because she dared stand up to him, nobody did that. Everyone, except his friends and family, feared and respected him. Secondly because this was the school weirdo, who rarely interacted or talked to anyone. "You sure I'm the person you wanna mess with?" She shocked him again by responding. "I got bigger problems that pissing off the school's biggest bully." She spoke calmly. Like, it showed that she was not scared of him. She actually looked... bored. "Yeah, like what?" he asked, willing to know what could possibly be worse than pissing him off, and insulting him on top of that. She looked at him, like really looked into his eyes, and he was taken aback by the pain reflected in her eyes. "Piss off." she said and walked away. He was internally grateful that there was no one else in the hallway, because he had no intentions of following that girl.* Callie Wild was the school weirdo. Hopefully, with careful and calculating steps, Ava will survive the blistering cold winters, the first-hand experience of a war, and developing a difficult bond with the men of 1st Platoon. --•--•--•-- This is a work of fan-fiction, which means I don't own practically anything. Except for Aveline Baker and some scenes. Will be based off of/follow the campaign. This work has content pertaining to difficult aspects of WW2 including blood and gore; swearing/harsh language; sexual/crude comments and actions; German POW camps; etc. Please DO NOT READ if you aren't comfortable or have too strong opinions on things related to WW2. It's a fictional story and, thus, should be treated like it. On flip side, there will humor. Especially from Zussman- we all like him. And don't forget moments from hardass Pierson...those will get interesting too. ;) ~Started on September 1st, 2018~ ~Finished September 1st, 2019~
