Rosaline DeMuse, a 16-year-old always daydreaming high school student, wakes up one day in a land in great danger. For about a month now, a vicious virus that controls one's body and forces one to kill themselves has been spreading throughout the area. No cure has been found, and the virus is slowly but steadily spreading everyday. The leaders of the land have chosen her specifically to find a cure, and they will not take her back home until a cure has been found. Welcome to Evergreen
During winter break, a retreat welcomes 20 students from a nearby city school into Evergreen, a small friendly mountain town known for it's scenic views and cozy inns sought after for the vacation vibe. Welcomed to take part in a retreat promoting mindfulness and self-growth, the students on this trip find this as the opportunity to do everything but that. On a hike, a group of students wander out to a nearby grotto where they discover a plethora of flowers. Entranced by their beauty, they decide to take some back with them. Within hours of this event, one of their chaperones falls ill. She becomes extremely irritable and erratic with everyone she encounters in town. Soon enough, other townspeople begin to fall ill with similar symptoms and this sends a wave of panic over the town and its inhabitants. The local sheriff decides to place a quarantine on the town to avoid new people from becoming affected and preventing those who are ill from leaving and possibly spreading the mysterious malady.
