Nikolai Howre is everything the Kingdom of Woreh wished for a prince. A charmer. A sword-fighter. A dragon slayer. A worthy successor of the throne. Until he wasn't.

An achiever. A scholar. And a perfectionist to the bones. Everything Nikolai wanted but couldn't achieve. Ladislav Grimm, heir of the House of Grimm and a contender for the throne. Chosen by the late Queen Pirr's legacy, born and bred for politics and perfection.

With two rival houses and an ancient feud between them, Ladislav and Nikolai sought to break each other in order to get the throne.

But with darkness being bread and bodies being found, Nikolai and Lada must set aside their differences to uncover the secrets tied within their blood. And possibly within the dark history of the kingdom itself.

"Water or wine?" She repeated his question.

Nikolai looked to his left to see Ladislav playing with her watch, the blue gems glinting under the dim candlelights. She looked away from the window and met his gaze.

Her eyes were always so glassy. And being this close to her made him see himself in her eyes. He could see his too-blonde hair and too-blue eyes. But just this once, he wasn't smiling.

"Water or wine?" He repeated his question under his breath. But he knew that both of them heard the question with what little space they have left within this empty bunker.

A grin broke from her face and saw mirth dancing within her eyes. It roamed his face and met his gaze again. But this time, it was as if she was looking at him. Past his eyes and body to whatever lay beneath.

"You know I never choose either, You Majesty."

"And what would you choose then?"

Then he recalled the flash of teeth, the burning gaze, and the too-long nails from the night they hunted the forests of Ekiel.

"I trust you know the answer to that, Prince."

****Copyrighted**** 'Tell me you don't feel it.' He whispered against my lips, and the trembling that had ceased at the feel of his lips against mine began again with renewed vigor. 'Tell me it's not what you want, and I'll go. You'll never have to see me again.' Swallowing, I looked up at the eyes that had entranced me from the start. I took in his every feature, slowly and deliberately. I thrilled at the feeling of his arms enfolding me, and I inhaled his familiar scent with a trembling breath. And then, then I did the most foolish thing imaginable: I flung my arms about his neck and kissed him with all that I had, almost losing myself in the safety and security I felt. But more than that, I ran. I took his moment of shock, the slight loosing of his arms about me, and tore myself away from him, shoving out the door and into the rain. I suppose I'll never know why he didn't follow me. It was the thing I feared most. I knew that if he came for me a second time, I wouldn't be able to say 'no'. I wouldn't be able to run. But I had to. I had to go. I couldn't let him be hurt because of me. He would live on now, and I would marry another. I had leased my last bit of passion in that one moment in his arms, and as I made my way through the dark streets, I felt myself become dull and lost like the creatures bound in the menagerie. **Much of this was written when I was younger and then I came back later and finished it. There will likely be mistakes. Lots of them.

In the kingdom of Volturn, where alliances are forged through bloodlines and ambition, Prince Cid Volturn-the Cold Prince-has always stood apart. Born of the third queen and hardened by loss, Cid rejects the court's demands for a political marriage, refusing to chain his fate to hollow vows. To him, love is a weakness, and duty is a cage. But fate often defies even the coldest heart. During an unremarkable ride through the lower city, Cid's gaze falls upon a slave girl on the auction block. Lyra-pale as moonlight, with silver hair matted by dust and eyes like fractured starlight. Fierce, defiant, and drowning in sorrow. Without a second thought, Cid outbids the crowd, paying an outrageous price for a girl whose worth only he seems to recognize. Back at the palace, Lyra expects cruelty or indifference, but instead finds freedom in the most unlikely place: the heart of a prince who claims he seeks no love, only loyalty. When the king demands Cid marry for political gain, Cid makes an even bolder move-offering Lyra not servitude, but marriage. "You are the only soul in this court untouched by ambition," Cid tells her. "If I must marry, let it be to someone who understands the cost of chains." Bound by defiance and trust, they challenge the court's expectations and the shadows that seek to tear them apart. Yet, as Lyra's past resurfaces and Cid's enemies close in, they must decide if love, fragile and unspoken, is enough to withstand a kingdom built on ice and betrayal. For in the coldest heart, even the smallest flame can spark a revolution.

I screamed, pulling harshly at all my restraints, attempting to get free, hearing the harsh clank of metal on metal with every movement. Colder than the table beneath me, chills ran through my body. I couldn't bring myself to open my eyes, so I just lay there, waiting for what I knew was to come. "You're mine now, mut." His voice made my body tense more than it already had. The way he sounded so angry. So possessive. I dared myself to speak, "W-what ar-are you gonna d-do to me?" My voice shook and wavered so much in my fear that it was numb to my ears. 'Then,' she hesitated for only a moment, 'I'll never be a wife still yet yours!' she promised him. 'Say that again,' he told her in a hard angry voice, 'and face the rowen,' he dared her. Despite the threat, she climbed out of bed and went to him. She tilted her head to look challengingly at him with her sharp green tear stained eyes. 'I will never be a wife much less yours,' she repeated in a terminal raspy but rather confident voice. He stared at her for a long time, simmering. The tension in the bedroom thickened greatly. Silence reigned as their stare down intensified. All in the room stood in trepidation, awaiting his eppy. 'Everyone,' he ordered in a calm yet jussive voice that betrayed the extremity of his anger. 'Out!' he finished. They all festinated out, skedaddling away as quickly as they could before anyone of them suffered from transfer of aggression. And when the door closed with a small click sound behind them, he drew her to him unexpectedly. 'You are mine,' he simply told her with surety before he lipped her. ~~~~ 🌫She knew nothing, except that she wanted out, away from him, the beast. She knew not what she wanted, especially with a damaged head and fragmented memories. He was a part of her and she was a part of him. He would never let her go. She must be there, with him, under his spell, wrapped around his thumb lest everything would go wrong. I rounded the corner to the hall, only to smack into something. "I'm so sorry," I apologized, reaching down to pick up a book that had fallen. My heart skipped a beat as I looked up, making eye contact with a pair of hazel eyes. "No worries," the boy replied, his voice rich and smooth, "Are you alright?" I nodded quickly, flashing a smile. I was too stunned to respond. Standing in front of me was none other than Prince Everest Dresden Macallister. "Who are you?" he asked, tilting his head curiously. "I'm Aspen," I replied, trying hard not to look away from his curious stare. "Dresden," he said, holding out his hand. I assumed he was going to shake mine, but instead he brought it to his lips, pressing a kiss against it. My breath caught in my throat, my cheeks burning. "Nice to meet you," I managed to say without stuttering. "My apologies, but I have to hurry. Miss Elizabeth has asked me to retrieve something." He nodded, stepping aside as I hurried into the room. I stood there, taking a deep breath to calm myself. Once I was done, I spotted the prince sitting by the window, the book that I'd picked up in his hand. I ducked my head and made a beeline to the door. "Aspen," he called, making me freeze. "Yes?" "Will you be attending the Charity Gala?" ------------------- Aspen's only purpose living in London was to finish her semester abroad. Or so she thought. 14 parts Complete

This is a Loki x reader story. -------------------------- Excerpt: The guards flung you down at someone's feet and you kept your eyes on the ground, knowing that you were in front of an Asgardian Royal. "Someone has been very naughty." A silky voice met your ears and you couldn't help but look up towards the source. Your breath caught in your throat as you laid eyes on what had to be Prince Loki. The dark hair and the playful, shining eyes gave him away, and a shiver shot through your spine at how beautiful yet terrifying he was. You had heard rumors of the prince's cruelty before, and your face grew cold as he bent down to meet your eyes. --------------------------
