Dave lives with Dirk and bro as a selective mute. He can only say 3 words such as yes, no, and sir. Dirk tries to help him learn more but it doesn't work all that well. Because of bro being so called "overprotective" and has restrictions for the two he doesn't want Dave to learn more words. He's scared that if he does he'll start badmouthing and act like Dirk and how he is towards him.
