Safire (Saffie) Buchanan is different. She was born with wings. She has moved from foster home to foster home throughout her life when she suddenly is moved to a home with a pair of twins who also have wings. Safire then finds out that she and the twins are part of a group of people called the Defenders of Elysium. The defenders are a group of people born with wings who protect the country against Kakó Pnévma. Kakó Pnévma is a group of people with black wings that started after one of the first defenders turned against Neara and then her wings turned pitch black. They are some of the last of the guardians in Neara. They discover there are still people left of Kakó Pnévma.
Will Safire be able to save Neara or will she and her friends die trying?
