In the year 2080, after the global COVID-19 pandemic, only the rich are allowed to leave their house. Meaning, citizens of America that make over $500/month.
People who make less than that amount can not leave their house under any circumstance. If you leave, the penalty is either a lifetime in prison, or even death.
But, to be kind to the unfortunate, the government holds a lottery, Random Individual Lottery Selection (RILS) every year. This lets 3 people from 10 states of America go outside for 2 days, under some circumstances.
In Cherry Hills Village, Colorado, most people make way over that amount of money. But only a handful of people make way less. And that's where Oliver (Olli) Hiro Tuffin stays. He and his mom are not allowed to leave their apartment building. He's ok with the fact that he can leave his apartment room, but he still wants to go outside.
Olli has one friend outside of the building that he talks to. His name is Mason Kenji Terra, one of the rich majorities, that lives in the same city as him. They met online, and basically that's the only person Olli talks to.
Mason talks all about the outside world and tries to make it better for Olli, and while talking to him, Olli begins to catch feelings for Mason. Yet Mason already has a girlfriend, Lola Abigail Ryder. So Olli doesn't bother with it, since he loves the both of them.
But this year, Olli gets picked in the RILS. Mason and Olli always would joke about it, but they never thought it would happen. When Olli is picked, he goes straight to Mason, who tries to show him all of his favorite places before the time is up.
Even when the time is up, Mason still tries to do everything in his power to keep Olli with him, and, to even be with Olli, more than friends.
