Sam Crawford and Natasha Linton were friends since they were ten months old....until Sam's mom died in a car crash. Sam was only 15 years old when her mom died and it had broken her heart more that anyone could have imagined. She was wreaked, sad all the time and wouldn't talk to anyone. Her dad started drinking and being mean to Sam. Sometimes, he would pretend like she doesn't exist. In Sam's mind, her dad blames her for her mother's death.
A year later and Sam have completely changed her look. She started to wear dark clothing and she sleeps around with any boy that comes her way. She became the girl with no heart. Girls would avoid her, boys would want her and basically she didn't care....until she met a certain boy who made her care again. Also, her ex- best friend, Natasha, who she so gracefully pushed away, was diagnosed with cancer. Will Sam finally open up again and show that she cares for her ex-best friend and the hot new boy, Riley.

The idea of this story has hit me square to the face when I watched one of my favorite novellas on television. Leslie Garcia has been a sweet little 9 year old girl and then her world is crushed when she finds out she suddenly has cancer. Everyone is worried and they are doing the best she can but just doesn't want it. Finally, a chance to see her dad again. She hasn't really been scared of death though sometimes it frightens her with curiosity about after life. Alex, her best friend, have known each other for a long time and he feels very protective over her like taking care of her, checking in on times, and keeping her away from the idiots at school who keep calling her names. Ashley, Leslie's older sister, has been crushed by the news and does not know what to do anymore.
