After Ratchet and the Galactic Rangers saved the system from Drek and his Deplanetizer, Ratchet returned to Grim's garage to fulfill his promise and shortly after, was visited by Clank. The summer had come and gone and Ratchet had successfully given a proton scrub to every vehicle in the Kyzil Plateu. Just before he could rest however, his TV began buzzing with a new program.

A love they both had since young bots in that small medical class so long ago back on Cybertron. ...A love that abruptly and unwillingly paused for them both. Ratchet felt that sharp pain every day since she offlined hit him deep in the spark, making it almost impossible to breathe. Yet he pushed through, for her. She was gone, and the sparkbond they shared was the only thing that kept him connected to her even though it caused him so much mental and physical pain. Until he impulsively cut it off one day, as his mental health couldn't take the memories that came back to keep him grieving every single day. Having erased the sparkbond while his lover was in deep stasis, she couldn't file the bond and so her one true love was erased from her processor in an instant. Left with regret for his selfish decisions, Ratchet has one adjective: Make her fall in love with him all over again. Ratchet and Clank are back on Fastoon, about a year after the events in the game "Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack In Time", and are studying the ruins and looking into lombax culture. They soon discover a research laboratory, containing an ancient portal which sends them careening into an alternate parallel dimension - a place where the normal conventions of behavior, morality, etc. are flipped on their heads, and history has played out somewhat differently. Here they encounter characters who are the opposites of what they are in their own universe, and must deal with each as a result. It will be the beginning of an emotional roller coaster ride for the two heroes! This is the first of what will be a multi-story arc, as Ratchet and Clank stumble through several dimensions while trying to find their way home!
