"Where are we going, Mummy," asked the little girl, clutching at her mothers hand.
"It doesn't matter right now, Ophelia, we just need to get away from here." Said the older woman, glancing down at the defiant child to her right. She clamped her arms tightly around her two daughters.
"Mummy, I'm scared," said the girl on her left, burrowing her face in her mother's side.
"It's alright Daphne, we're almost there." They weren't 'almost there'. In fact, the woman didn't even know if they were even halfway there. But it was better to lie if it made her children feel safe.
The trio trudged through endless miles of mud, stumbling and tripping. Yet they carried on, spurred onwards by the idea of a safe place, somewhere much, much safer than where they came from.
When Ophelia is kidnapped by dark forces from the North, her sister, Daphne, must be the one to save her from a fate worse than death.
Daphne will befriend many people along the way, but who can she trust when her whole life was a lie?
