Nineteen-year-old Ellie Bates doesn't do much in her life other than study pre-law at NYU. She doesn't like to go out or party or try new things. However, she somehow gets wrangled into going to an NBA basketball game with her best friend, Angelina, where she cracks her head open after superstar basketball player Nate Hawthorne falls on top of her, reminding Ellie once again, why she doesn't try new things.

When Ellie runs into Nate again the next day in the alley near her apartment, the pair realize that their fateful and painful meeting wasn't a one time occurrence. Ellie shows Nate around New York and before they part ways again, they swap phone numbers to stay in touch.

And that is exactly what they do. Plus a little more.
