Stella had decided that a normal life was exactly what she needed after all the pain and sadness vampires had brought on her. She now has a job, she's closer to her friends and family, and she has everything she though she needed, but she doesn't have him. She feels just like she did before, empty and alone, despite being surrounded by the people she loves, and she's sure she'll never feel alive unless she sees Dennis again.
Recurring nightmares and visions of Dennis make it impossible for her to forget about him, despite trying with all her strength.
After all the efforts she's made to stop herself from going back to Dennis, Alexander comes to her and tells her Dennis might be in danger and that they need to find him.
Stella, as always, has many unanswered questions. Will she find the vampire she thinks is the love of her life? Will he be glad to see her? Will she be able to forgive what had made her pull away from him? But the one question that hunts her the most is whether she can trust Alexander to show her the way to find Dennis or finding him is just a part of Alexander's bigger plan.
