Mind Your Assumptions is a semi-autobiographical account of an overseas Chinese residing in the Indonesian archipelago. It tells the story of Liz Sugianto, a progressive young woman, trapped in a close-knit community not quite unlike that of an eighteenth-century English society. The idyllic small town that she is living in is rife with menial gossips and provides ample opportunity for intra- and inter-family drama. The only hope that women of lower social standing, such as her and her four sisters, is to marry financially better-off men. Hope comes in the form of two gentlemen, William Tandiono and Bobby Handoyo, sons of rich conglomerates who have just returned to the country after finishing their overseas education.

But can true love happen between two highly unlikely individuals?

Would each come to his/her own senses and overcome their pride and prejudices when it comes to the other?

Ultimately, Mind Your Assumptions is a story of how first impressions count and how social norms could initially drive a wedge between two individuals who are otherwise destined for each other. It is also the story of every modern woman's fight to stand on her own two feet and create her own version of a happy ending.
