Dean dosent know who he is. not in the sense of the word but as in he is lost in who he was told to be. His father was distant to say the least and he had to be a father to his little brother sam. that was his job. everyone has a role in life this was his. Dean sees himself as nothing more than an empty person meant to be the best and the worst.
Castiel understands dean. Cas is meant to be the smart guy who follows daddy and mommys plans. A trust fund kid if you will. Hes set to go to college become a doctor and follow the novak legacy like his brother Michael and not be like Luci.
Castiel and Dean suddenly forced together from two separate worlds but really its the same world. The start to see how similar they truly are. That the world isnt so dark and colorless. It isnt a world forced to be something your not. This can cause harm to the Winchester and Novak boys but they have each other and thats enough for them.
