Ruina is unique amongst her people. With different physical features and capabilities, she wonders why she is made to sleep in a home alone, without family, and away from the rest of the village. It doesn't seem like her people have any animosity towards her, but she knows she isn't the same as they are and is treated differently for it. She also wonders why the abandoned city across the river is forbidden and why they live with so many restrictions. As her frustration grows, her willingness to follow the rules diminishes, throwing her and others into a saga that was never meant to exist.
