When Emily arrives at Abbey Grove from Ireland, she hits it off with Mitchell Harper, the class clown.
Becoming instant friends, their relationship soon takes a romantic turn. But, each believing the other doesn't return the same feeling, they are left to want each other quietly.

When the others in Form K convince Mitchell that his feeling is mutual, he gets the bright idea of making Emily jealous in order to get her attention.
However, when Emily gets the wrong idea and decides to distract herself from the pain and move on with the school bully, Frank Grayson, Mitchell must now try to win her back.
