Amity just wants to make her parents proud, but it gets harder by the day. If she gets 99% on a test, well, she just could have done better.
By ninth grade, she is nothing short of perfect. She gets only perfect scores and is always the perfect student. She hangs out with people her parents have approved of. She never steps out of line.
Until she meets Luz. Luz was never in the line to begin with, so how could she step out? Luz doesn't listen to anyone and she doesn't care what her grades look like. She's proud of the smallest accomplishments.
And she is stripping Amity of everything she's worked for with one of her adorable smiles.
