The world erupted around me, making me fall down to my knees. The cries and screams from terrified people filling my ears. Concrete and pieces from buildings rained down in big pieces crushing people underneath them. I watched in terror as the world I knew fell apart in front of my eyes. A large groaning noise that came from underneath me brought me to my attention. I looked down and saw large drastic cracks forming under my knees. I scrambled up and dogged flying pieces of concrete, franticly looking for some face that I recognized. I looked up at the sky and nothing. The sky that I knew to be blue and have fluffy clouds in it, was now pitch black, with nothing in it. Like something swallowed the sky up. It was now dark and I couldn’t see anything or anyone, but I could still hear everything. The screams, the crying, the loud explosions happening somewhere making it sound like a warzone. A warzone would be better than this. I wasn’t afraid of the dark, I was afraid of what was in the dark. Maya was just a normal girl, but when things take the turn for the worst and she becomes the only girl left on the earth. Everything and everyone just suddenly dies. Follow Maya and her story as she struggles to survive as she finds out just why the earth suddenly died. Leaving her by herself. Or is she by herself? This is my first published story! No one ever knows the whole story... Nestled deep in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, something is emerging. Kept in absolute secrecy, it seeps into a fading town, quietly shared from person to person. For Alden Bensen, a directionless high school graduate, this discovery could mean an escape from his empty existence. To Rachel DuValle, perpetually underestimated and dismissed by the world, magic represents a chance to become something much greater than herself. In the face of an unsuspecting world, their decisions shape the growth of a budding society discovering untold power. This potent force offers anyone the power to change humanity forever - or send it cascading into swift and total annihilation. ----- The Last Science is an ongoing science-fiction / low-fantasy web novel series. New chapters will be posted on Fridays for as long as it takes to tell the whole story. For Wattpad only, chapters are split up by individual scenes-if you would prefer the whole chapters in single pieces, please visit my homepage or another site where I post this story, thanks!
