Lily spent the past two years being told not to go near that door; the one down the alley by the junk store. Children whispered about its magic, teenagers used it as a source of daring, even the adults seemed to be apprehensive. A silly tale was all it was, wasn't it? It was always a tempting prospect in the neighborhood to her, but Lily never imagined she'd be forced through it. She never would've thought she'd find herself lifting the lock, pulling the handle with ever-increasing urgency. No, this wasn't what she pictured her life leading up to. She's even more surprised to find herself in a new world upon crossing the threshold. Say hello to Retly, a land brimming with adventure and magic that Lily can't begin to comprehend. Her priority is to leave the place, to get back home; where her worst worries aren't weighed by the penalty of life or death. But as she meets new friends on her trek through Retly's lands, she wonders whether or not she truly wants to leave. A WitchHunter with a glorious destiny. An assassin desperate for freedom. A stable boy with a dangerous secret. A friend with a hidden family. A brother who craves vengeance. ~~~ The deceit is this: The Hunter has a Lochri daughter. The stable boy has a secret curse. The WitchMaster isn't what he appears. No one knows how or why the Lochri came into being. Some believe it was the work of gods. Others, many, many others, believe they are spawned from something much darker. WitchHunters, employed at Hunter's guilds, live their lives in search of these monsters, these unnatural beings who dare to question the order we have kept in place for centuries. I do not hold the title of WitchHunter, however, for I am something far more sinister. I am Alice, the Demon Raven of Kindleridge, and I'm their Ace. ~~~ They call her the Ace, the assassin owned by Velius Dag, highest ranking WitchMaster in the Kingdom. For six years, the Ace has lived mostly unbothered, but all that will change when Hale Arsen, Velius's adopted son, returns to the Ridge, and the Ace is assigned to protect him, as he will one day become the future WitchMaster. Tensions rise as the two clashing personalities come together time after time in feud, but with the Lochri problem growing ever stronger, and secrets begin to unravel themselves, these two opposing forces will have to realize that working together may be the only way to keep the world from figuring out the truth that could spell disaster for them all. What happens when you realize you might be the bad guy?
