This story includes Hanahaki Disease, a fictional Japanese disease, in which is caused by one sided love. The person who is in love coughs up flowers, or flower petals, of their crush's favorite flower, or favorite color. The disease can be solved by the love being returned romantically, strong friendship will not work. The disease can also be solved by surgery, although, removing the flower also removes the emotions, meaning any romantic feelings for their crush also disappears. If neither happens and the disease continues, the flowers will fill up the lungs of the victim, and eventually suffocate the victim.

Hanahaki is a disease where the affected coughs up the favorite flowers of the one they love, left untreated it can kill in a matter of weeks, you can get a surgery to remove the root, however you will forget everything about your loved one, or never feel love again. More commonly people let it kill them, but this can be avoided by confessing, however if you get rejected, the condition will progress faster and surgery will no longer be an option. The cough will start with a few petals, then progress to the entire flower head, after that a bit of blood, and finally, the entire flower with the stem and blood. If it gets to that point, you likely have days to live. The condition progresses faster or slower depending on how long the love has existed and how strong it is. Some of the warning signs for the disease are high unexplainable fevers along with harsh coughing fits and trouble breathing, these symptoms only occur for the worst cases however, so not everyone will have warning signs. "Great" Asahi sighed with his head in his hands. "Just what I needed." When Asahi gets sick and doesn't recover it's up to him and a few others to figure out what to do before it's too late, only, he has a secret he doesn't want them to know. Some say secrets can kill, but this time it's far too real. (Disclaimer!!! It's not very painful at first, but the flowers get bigger and more frequently coughed up over a span of 2 years. If you haven't found and kissed your soulmate by the time you turn 18, you die of the "disease." The flowers are your soulmate's favourite color(s). Their gender is shown by what kind of flower it is: buttercups for female, roses for male, and oleanders for any others. Once you kiss your soulmate, the flowers retreat over a span of a week, finally leaving forever. If your soulmate dies before you find them, the flowers turn black, and the progression of the flowers stops. If you kiss anyone who is not your soulmate (outside blood relatives), then 2 months get taken off of your time to find your soulmate. If you have more than one soulmate (the max is 3), the flowers will be oleanders and will have two different colors the flowers can be. //Yes, I know that's not what Hanahaki disease is.
