"Mysterious." She smirks. "Now if that's all you need you may go." Riley goes to walk past me, but instead I grab her forearm, pulling her towards me as she gaps. We both stand, neither of us moving. I still hold her with my hand. Our arms are brushing up against one another as we stay. Neither of us pulling apart. She brings her gaze up to meet mine as she waits for me to say something. Her lips part and my name passes through. "Declan." --------------------------------------------- Riley has had a tough life. She never had an easy childhood and it only got worse as it followed her into adulthood. Now, as she finally escapes those who kept her captive, she only seems to fall into more danger. Torn between starting a new life and staying to continue her old one with her best friend, Riley must make a choice. But nothing goes as planned as she meets a new, interesting group of people. Her world is turned upside down once again, but she can't decide if it's for the best or not.

Tommy's older, jaded, and sure he's too broken to love. Riley's younger, gentle, and still believes in forever. - Tommy Carter learned early that desire could drown you. That wanting the wrong thing could get you hurt... or worse. So he buried it. Became a cop. Got engaged to a woman. Lived the life expected of him, even as the weight of silence filled his lungs. Then he met Riley Monroe, a sweet, soft-spoken physical therapy student-- and everything Tommy shouldn't be thinking about late at night. Tommy, closeted and aching, knows he should keep his distance. Riley is sunshine in human form, with a shy smile and eyes that see right through him. He's never been with a man. Never let himself want one this badly. But Riley's kindness cracks something open in him. Makes him feel like maybe, just maybe... it's not too late to want more. The age gap should be a warning. The timing couldn't be worse. But Riley is something like oxygen... and for the first time in years, Tommy wants to breathe.
