After her father going to prison and her mother leaving, it's just Grace and her paraplegic brother Nic.
As she grows, things change more and more. They're forced onto the streets, and that's no place for a girl. Grace is so used to change-she even changes that and starts calling herself Russel.
Then things are okay, until another change that forces her into an all boys orphanage. They're determined to find a way out with the help of a few of the other boys, all they know is, Grace is long gone.
