Fury and the Phoenix

"Why do you do it? Tell me."

I could hear the desperation in her voice. The pity. But this has been my life for as long as I could remember. I did everything to get away from him. Everything to protect her from the evil in this world. I did it all for her. My little sister, who deserved the world.

"You already know why I do it. We have to save up money some way or another." My voice was hard, my walls pulled up to cover up how much I was hurting inside. My only will to live was her.

"Amelia. He isn't going to find us, and we already have enough money. You've done so much for me, for us. I just want you to be happy, to find somebody." Her voice was calm as she spoke to me.

"You don't know that Jess, he can still find us. He is the Don, he is always looking. And I will continue to put you first, always." With that, I walked to my small room in our two-bedroom apartment to clean my wounds.
