Haku is a special child. He was born when darkness swallowed the light and for this reason he has no soul. This makes him an outsider and he is shunned by the other children. The members of the Mohakin-tribe fear him because they believe him to be the angel of darkness. When his home is overrun by enemy troops and his parents are killed by the attack, he is convinced that he has lost everything. But then a noble landlord takes care of him and introduces him to the foreign culture of an unknown country. In the following years he learns about the customs of his new home, his true identity and the meaning of first love. However, he also realizes that he is haunted by a dark shadow which is intent on robbing him of everything he cares for.
