After Sector Zero's research stations and other things failed, Alterra has sent around forty or so scientists to the Aurora's Crater, where the Aurora crashed around seven years ago. The goal of the researchers is to find out more about the planet's history, and research the fauna and flora that inhabit the Aurora's Crater. But when they think everything is going to go right and nothing will go wrong, everything flips. With a sudden change, there's already an accident, a revenge-seeking rogue, murderous scientist, and a manager on the brink of insanity because of his status of being the only survivor of the Aurora's crash. A 2019 Wattys entry deeply into climate change, global warming, and environmental destruction, especially the nuclear kind! A lot of true facts are embedded in this story which has both true and fictional characters. Who is to be believed is for you to decide. The chapters are many but many are short. Still, it is a full-sized novel with promise for future adventures. Plot: An international crew of scientists board a large state-of -the art oceanographic vessel privately funded by an anonymous source. The itinerary is to travel down the west coast of the Americas and travel the South Pacific to Antarctica. The team plans to visit many known sites of hydrothermal vents using a device called the MAPR, searching vents for a bacterium that seems promising in use as a way to fight carbon dioxide emissions. But one of the two junior scientists on the team soon realizes that secrets are being kept, and makes promises to keep some, while learning that some onboard have entirely different agendas. To complicate matters, this junior scientist's desire for a special friendship grows in intensity, just as mysterious murmurings and strange sightings intensify. What Lies in the Deep
After a mysterious shuttle crashes into the Pacific Ocean near Kauai Island, an enigmatic young man emerges, harboring extraordinary abilities tied to the sea. Unknown to the world, he is a hybrid creation-part human, part Leviathan-engineered by an ancient alien race to protect ecosystems. Stranded on Earth, he adapts to life on Kauai, finding solace with a new family, including a spirited young girl and her chaotic alien companion. The corporation responsible for his arrival on Earth, Alterra, begins expanding its operations into Earth's oceans, bringing with it the dangers of their greed and recklessness.
