The Golden Beach is the first among all beaches in the state to get the certification. The Blue Flag Certificate gradually plays an important role in boosting the tourism sector of Odisha. Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has expressed his gratitude to PM Narendra Modi and Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar for suggesting the Golden Beach.
The Puri's Golden Beach along with the other seven beaches in India has been recommended to the International Jury for the coveted Blue Flag Certification under the BEAMS (Beach Environment and Aesthetic Management System) program to the government of Denmark. The FEE had advised 33 guidelines on eco-friendliness, cleanliness, and tourist-friendly amenities for the Blue Flag tag.
The chief minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik expressed his happiness on Twitter. He tweets," Glad to share the Golden Beach of Puri has received coveted Blue Flag certification by FEE Denmark by conforming to the stringent environmental norm and ensuring world-class sustainable tourist amenities. The renowned eco-label will add to the charm of the World Heritage City.
Puri beach that is 8KM long and stretches 870 m from Digabareni Square to Mayfair Hotel was re-constructed under the World Bank-funded ICZMP (Integrated Coastal Zone Management Project) for Blue Flag tag. According to the sources, almost 11 crores were spent by the central and state government together to develop eco-friendly and tourist-friendly services. Susanta Nanda, the project director of ICZMP said that the Blue Flag Certificate is a highly prestigious global recognition and will attract tourists, almost foreigners, to Odisha.
