We all know Ichigo was thrust into the shinigami world when the incident with Rukia and the hollow happened. By having a sword plunged through his chest he was able to defeat it because he had become a substitute shinigami. Except that's not all that happened. Something else was tripped up inside Ichigo's body, whether it was his spirit powers or his heritage that was responsible for the trigger.
