Checkmate

What's worse than having an overpowering enemy in front of you? It's when that enemy takes shape in the very person you trusted most. It's when that enemy is bathed in light and right under your nose, but you still couldn't catch them.
It's when you had the chance to fight back, but never saw it, and then all you are is a puppet to their schemes.

"Checkmate, a game position in chess in which the king is compromised and can no longer escape." He chuckled as he looked at the arrangement before him. A battle map, but to him and his partner, it was just another game of chess. Strategies and traps, taking out small insignificant pieces until the enemies realize how much they lost.

Giving them a crack of hope to take out their own king, only to fall into one last trap.

"Checkmate."
