Amid the hydrogen-lit streets of New-Victorian London something deeply troubling is stirring; but as look would have it, Germander Speedwell - doctor of History and expert of the arcane - has found himself in the thick of both the unsettling speculation and something of a pea-souper atmosphere. 

Along with mysterious time traveller Ravenna Friere, the renowned curator  must use his wit and knowledge to cut to the heart of a matter so spine tingling it would whiten the hair of the most ardent broadsheet reader - uncovering the truth which links rumors of an inhuman creature haunting the docklands, the disappearance of several guttersnipes and the troubling experimentation of a renowned European Scientist.
