One night, everything changes for Brenda Cole when she is served a drink by Shawn Mendes, who finds himself drawn to Brenda despite the fact that he is still nursing a broken heart. Brenda, a music attorney, is no stranger to interacting with musicians, but she can't help but be caught up by his bright smile and the genuine interest he shows in her.

Brenda has a career that many would kill for, and spends most of her nights at concerts or music industry parties pretending she's happy to be there. Her professional life may look good on paper, but something is missing from Brenda's life until she meets Shawn. But Shawn's life isn't exactly an easy thing to be a part of. Attention follows him wherever he goes, and fans obsess over every aspect of his life, including his past love life and current relationship status. While Brenda feels a way she has never felt before when she's with Shawn, the outside pressures can be overwhelming - despite Shawn's best efforts to protect Brenda from the scrutiny - and Brenda had been alone for so long before Shawn, that she sometimes wonders if she would be happier if she stepped back out of the spotlight.
