The public's ability now modified in the year 2100 allowed them to use space and technology, in general, fully by a press of a button. SOAR, the nation's most known space agency was so high on improvements they began doing things beyond humanly acceptable.

Despite their evil ways, top scientists made a slight mistake. Small in size, but it drew bigger by the second. In this rush, they quickly shut all interactions within zero gravity. Mars, now a high tall business complex, ushered people back to earth. SOAR claimed it was because of an upcoming money shortage. Nothing more was said on that topic..

Most named it The Unknown ShutOff of 2130. Soon becoming a theory in the making. After all...
Why did this norm of science discontinue?
If astronauts were still able to use everything freely.

SOAR blurred all communication with the public. Just a news anchor once and a while repeating an unlikely discovery or another trip across the milky way.

And within all this commotion, Liam Darth decided at the glorious age of eleven to find out what happened.

Elodie's life changes at the turn of a doorknob when she is forced into joining a secret organization that claims to be protecting the Earth from aliens. But with every step she takes, she finds the organization, or the facility, as they call it, becoming more and more suspicious. When a mysterious death occurs, revealing a well-concealed secret, things quickly go downhill as humanity's future is placed on the shoulders of a single gaggle of teenagers. *** I hear a sigh from the other side of the door, "Miss. Chaucer, you have a wonderful opportunity here, are you going to take it or not?" Now, I am seriously confused, "Opportunity?" She takes advantage of my befuddled state and shoves the door open. Shit. The corners of her mouth pull up, and it's so unnatural, it takes me a moment to realize she's smiling. Major plastic surgery? Probably. Click. Did she just lock the door? She locked the door! I spring towards the house phone, dusty from years of doing absolutely nothing, so I can call the police. I don't make it. Halfway there, I trip on my own pant-leg and face plant on the floor. The woman steps over me and retrieves the phone. She looks at it as if it's a foreign object, "This won't be necessary. All I want to do is talk to you." For some reason, instead of screaming, I stay silent. She smiles and pulls out a chair from the kitchen table for me to sit on. When I don't sit, she says, "If you want to know what's going on, then sit." I think about it for a moment. She hasn't hurt me yet, and I have to admit, I am quite curious as to what's going on. So, call me stupid, but I sit down. "I am from a space organization that protects civilians from . . . outside threats." *** Beautiful cover made by @mahana258! What if we were the first in our part of the galaxy to discover the secret of faster than light travel? What if this discovery was 10,000 years before it was supposed to be? Our neighbors had been watching for centuries and were surprised with our early arrival into the Web of Worlds... The Year is 2166: To the people of Earth, the universe seemed to be a very lonely place. Astronomers have discovered tens of thousands of planets; many had indications of organic life. SETI had been searching for signals for over 200 years. There had been a few tantalizing bits of radio or radar energy received but nothing ever proven to be of intelligent origin. But there was an alien civilization out there, in fact many of them linked together in a Web of Worlds. They were watching us quietly, carefully and patiently. It had long been the prime directive of the Web that no developing civilization be contacted until that civilization made it into interstellar space on their own; and that always took time, lots of time. Most Web worlds took 1,000 years or more to go from steam to the atom and none had made it from the atom to a sublight stardrive in less than 5,000 standard years. Every civilization of The Web had proven that faster than light travel was impossible, so there was plenty of time to watch the Earth... The watchers were astounded with the speed of progress of human science and also horrified at the periods of violence. By 2076 nuclear fusion power was widespread on earth. By 2100 the first interplanetary fusion ships explored the Sol system. The men and women of the Anglosphere Alliance began their first missions in ships approaching 0.1c. At that velocity, manned flight to even the nearest stars would take a lifetime. What would happen if a beautiful engineer and a brilliant physicist stumbled upon an artificial gravity field which would make a faster than light drive possible... Years later, she had become a renowned scientist, having the discovery of traversing universes in her name. But an experiment resulted in a disaster; leaving her both jobless and broken hearted. As they say, what's written in the fate can never be escaped. So, her fate mysteriously led her to Florion, a place that was 8,000 years ahead of the normal world. What was more baffling, however; was finding Hoseok alive and well. The reunion of the best friends rekindled their bond, also leading Elina to uncover Florion's secrets. It was a world way beyond the normal, a place where science and magic coexisted. Through this journey of discoveries, mysteries and confrontations of the past, Lucas was her constant companion. Is this a second chance, or the cruel repetition of their fate? This is the story of a distance that was never there, and a bond even the universe couldn't break. "I really liked your book. I am personally not a fan of sci-fi or historical genres but hidden in the stars really got me hooked! The rollercoaster of emotions, the outer worlds and their traditions are all so beautifully written! I would definitely love to read it again!" - @-KIMTURTLE [Cover credits : Janefanfics_]
MINDSLIP by TonyHarmsworth
34 parts Complete
MINDSLIP is the catastrophe which hits the Earth at 8.15am GMT next Wednesday morning. It began six hundred and fifty years earlier when Betelgeuse fulfilled its long-held prophecy to turn supernova. The radiation, gamma rays and gravitational waves hit the Earth at the same time as a coronal mass ejection. The combined bombardment causes all creatures on the Earth to swap minds, leaving people in animals, animals in people, men in women and children in adults. The nightmare which follows becomes a social and economic catastrophe. Geoffrey Arnold becomes a key figure in the government catastrophe committee, formed to resolve the myriad issues raised by MINDSLIP. Power generation, the health service, farming, pay, pensions, education, the banking system and asset ownership spiral into chaos. In addition, Geoffrey must save his wife from an imminent premature death brought on by one of the MINDSLIP effects. MINDSLIP is a realistic, frightening and sometimes amusing work of imagination which explores how people and families react to the world being changed beyond recognition. Note: MINDSLIP had been acquired by a publisher who, regrettably, has now folded. Rather than put the original version up on Wattpad, I have decided to give it a considerable edit. I'd love to know what you think. The early chapters might disturb, but hopefully they will also make you think about how you would deal with Geoff, Andrea, Angus, Caroline or Allan's situations.
