Sixteen year olds Kam and Chelsea were raised together as best friends, sisters, and so much more. They went through everything together: their parents divorce, their father's NBA drafts, and their mother's leaving. It caused them to have a heart of steel. Then, when it couldn't get worse, Kam found out she had diabetes. When she finally healed, she threw herself into everything she had. Her presonal motto was: blood, sweat, no tears. Both girls vow not to fall in love. But, suddenly, Kam finds herself falling for a boy who can't talk.

Lexi's life was fairly stable throughout her life. For the first ten years, she was an only child to two happy parents then she got a sister. A few years after her sister was born, her dad became an alcoholic and her parents happy marriage ended. Lexi moved away with him to try and help control his drinking only to get distracted by the football player across the street.
