[NaNoWriMo 2014; Wattys 2014] WARNING. THIS IS A VERY ROUGH, FIRST DRAFT AND HAS NOT BEEN EDITED AT ALL.

The land of Elseer has steadily been dying. With only the words of a long-forgotten prophecy to guide them, speaking of both destruction and renewal, the lives of the people hang in the balance, resting all on a single person.

Hidden and on the run, he has never settled in one place for more than a few weeks. He is elusive, and mysterious, not the one she thought she would meet in the streets of the busiest city in Elseer.
Certainly not the one that the goddess is driving her towards.

NOTE: THIS STORY IS NOW PUBLISHED. IF YOU ENJOYED, PLEASE SUPPORT ME BY PURCHASING IT ON AMAZON (: https://amzn.to/2HlNuss My story is an ugly one. My name is Aaro Varily, an ex-spy from an agency that will remain nameless. Years ago, I left the agency when I was kicked out, because my boss thought that I was an inappropriate addition to the team. I was "too much of a liability". I left my home, my family, and the person I cared most for in the world. I didn't have a choice. Years later, I had carved my own little niche in life. I began to travel with a young companion, named Veri, and we were doing pretty well for ourselves. My boss contacted me one night, out of the blue, and it caused my blood to run cold. And now I had a decision to make. I could travel the most dangerous path through The Gale, the woods inhabited by crooks, thieves, and worse, to find the girl I had left behind so many years ago. Or I could stay here, with Veri, and pretend none of it ever happened. I think it's obvious which one I picked.
