Democracy for Local Chickens is a collection of linked short stories set in the fictional northeastern Ontario town of Ecclesiastes. The book is an homage to Stephen Leacock's Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town. The book starts with Leacock's opening sentence and takes off from there. The result? An update depicting the foibles of a modern day small town where rural and urban ideals often collide. I hope you enjoy. Please tell me what you think.

'You should write a story about that.' It's a line that writers hear a lot, a bit like comedians in a bar being told. 'Here's a joke for you.' Best to smile politely and change the subject or get a round in. There are occasions when I didn't do either, and there will be occasions I don't do that in the future. These stories are and will be the result. I also include the background to the story for the curious but I'll keep the identities secret. I don't want you chasing them down in search of ideas for your next novel. :) The Daylight Room: A very young boy understands that what he did was wrong. What he doesn't understand is that the punishment is much, much wronger.
