Democracy for Local Chickens is a collection of linked short stories set in the fictional northeastern Ontario town of Ecclesiastes. The book is an homage to Stephen Leacock's Sunshine Sketches of a Little Town.  The book starts with Leacock's opening sentence and takes off from there. The result?
