Until a mere week ago, there have been many monster sightings and these monsters have been slowly kidnapping and killing the human societey. But not all problems have a downside. Some humans have recently developed meta-abilites. Since the people with special abilites are powerful enough to beat the monsters, they have all been drafted to a special school to help them learn to use their powers.
