Regina, her brothers, and their nephews got separated after an explosion happened near where they lived. She wakes up in a small camp where some survivors and a few military soldiers have built. There, she meets Christopher, a young military officer who was in the same zone where she lived but a few blocks away. 

She then meets R. An evolved zombie who isn't a full-like zombie and still has humanity left in him. But something about him was different.
She meets more zombies like R and starts to form a bond with them. 

Later on, she meets a scientist who knows why the zombies have colored eyes and why she can control them and communicate with them. 
 
Not everything was great for Regina. Until she met Rick, Daryl, Carl, and the others. And of course, Negan also. 
Everything changes from there.
