Mary Robinette Kowal was a guest speaker on Brandon Sanderson's YouTube writers series. This tutorial extracts her instructions and information to act as a tutorial for learning to write flash fiction, or really, a story of any length. If you work through this tutorial and play along, I encourage you to visit the video on YouTube and catch all her details. It's a wonderful explainer and exercise bundled all into one.

30 Days, 30 Stories: A Writing Challenge
This is a 30 day writing challenge, a collection of short stories. I've always been a world class procrastinator. The goal of this challenge is to get me writing regularly and, hopefully, break me of the perfectionist thinking that often paralyses me. The Rules: 1. Write and publish 1 short story (flash fic, vignette) per day for 30 days. 2. Stories must be at least 100 words. 3. They can be of any genre or subject matter. Like a lot of writers I have notebooks lying around full of random story ideas. Most of my older ideas are for novels and screenplays. Been going thru my old ideas and picking out the ones I think lend themselves to the short story format. I'm also working on coming up with NEW ideas that I can use here. Never been good at using prompts, but this is a good opportunity to experiment with those. All the stories here are original works written specifically for this challenge. It all started with a book (Student x Teacher)
This story is about how a young girl survived her abusive father through learning. When she was a little girl her family was very poor, and the death of her mother did not help at all. That is what has triggered her fathers to be abusive. There were times when Amy thought about just ending it all just like that. But the gentle voice of her mother and her last words would always ring in her ear. "Stay Strong". So she did and she also thought that things in her life would never change. That was until the start of her senior year, she met a very interesting teacher, Mr. Conwell.Concluida

"The world around her swam with mottled light. How long had she been fighting?" So...in sixth grade we took this computer-skills class. Our final test was to write a short story in Microsoft Word. My story ended up fleshing out into the trilogy I am working on and planning to publish at somepoint in my life, but I realized how incredible my writing skill has improved between just the two or three years.
