Learn how to write flash fiction. It's not as hard as you think! This guide presents a simple set of exercises that will demonstrate just how easy writing a short story can be.

If you do the exercises, you'll have a piece of flash fiction when you finish.

Total lesson time: 30 minutes to an hour

Mary Robinette Kowal was a guest speaker on Brandon Sanderson's YouTube writers series. This tutorial extracts her instructions and information to act as a tutorial for learning to write flash fiction, or really, a story of any length. If you work through this tutorial and play along, I encourage you to visit the video on YouTube and catch all her details. It's a wonderful explainer and exercise bundled all into one.
