I felt the cigarette burn into my cheekbone vagely, but at this point I was numb. I knew my face was probably completely atrocious with burns, but I guess it doesn't matter anydmore. I'm as good as dead after today. At the thought of tonight being my last, I felt fear bubble up in my throat. My throat tightened as the cigarette was pressed to my neck, and I was suddenly hit with an animalistic need to survive.

My knee came up and met his package in a manner that would hurt for a while, and I blindly tore out of the familiar house.

I stumbled down the street, followed by the cursing and screaming of my stepfather. I pushed myself harder, hearing him in hot pursuit.

I tripped over a crack in the side walk and fell to the concrete. I felt a body slam into me from behind, and I was suddenly facing up, with him sitting on my stomach.

His black eyes were the last thing I saw. The last thing I see before my stepfather pushes the cigarette deep into my left eye.

Pain.

I woke to a sudden breeze invading the warmth from the heavy blanket that caressed my skin. Here, alone with my thoughts, the still, calm quiet in the atmosphere is almost painful. I feel suffocated in the clingy, static air. In quiet, still moments like these, I can almost feel Him. I don't know who "Him" is, but I can feel his presence. It's almost calming, especially on fearful, anxiety fueled nights. Usually, he was the strongest when I had a nightmare. The nightmares weren't as common now, but, right after everything happened, I was having them every night. I'd wake up and swear I was drenched in blood, my eyes and lips sticky, my nose filled with the smell of iron and fuel. After everything, that's when Him first came. From there, he just never left. I can usually sense when Him is near. Today, though, his presence is stronger. I can almost feel Him next to me, weighing down the mattress. Some nights, I roll over and imagine how he looks, envision his smile or the sparkle in his eyes. He's never there and I'm left clutching to the thought that he exists, staring into empty air. Tonight, though, I swear I can reach out and touch him. Extending my hand gently, I sweep my hand out into the darkness and meet an inexplicable warmth. A scream rips from my lungs as hands cover my face and two icy blue eyes stare back at me, daring me to speak again. A soft cloth caressed my nose and mouth before I felt myself fade into bed. In which I fall in love with my brother's best friend. ***** "Don't pretend like you don't feel anything." His voice is low, sending shivers down my spine. "What do you mean?" "You know damn well what I mean." "I don't know what you're talking about." I pretend to ignore him, flipping some pages in my book. "Come on. I have all these assignments waiting. Aren't you supposed to teach me tonight?" "It depends on what you want me to teach." He smirks, his voice sounding even more dangerous. ***** I thought that my brother was the most popular guy in school, but as soon as I step into my university life, I realize how wrong I was. Meet Vaughn Cooper, his best friend. The guy is the epitome of every girl's dream. Godlike handsome. The quarterback. He's got the looks, and he's got the brain. Come on, he's got the scholarship to one of the most prestigious universities in the country, while I have just barely passed the entrance examination after long years of struggle during high school. How could a guy who worked that hard and deserves nothing more but adoration be labeled as a bad boy? Yeah, the answer is simple. The moment we lock eyes, I realize something as I stare into those piercing, amber eyes. He's not every girl's dream. He's every girl's nightmare. In my case, MY nightmare. Calm down, heart. CRINGE WARNING! First book I ever wrote on here!! -- "Sometimes the person who you are willing to take a bullet for is the person behind the gun." I stood peering over the cold lifeless body that lay before my eyes. I had always thought of death the enemy, but right now, I blessed it upon the person who is now at peace. Sometimes you don't need to be the smartest, or the fastest, but you do need to be wisest. They say the blood runs deeper than water, and I believe it, because even though the people that we love can turn on us and begin to hate us, they are only human, meaning that soon they will begin to see how short life really is and how it is not to be wasted. People who seem perfect and they look like they have no floors'; they are the people who are suffering, like I was. But I found my savior in the most uncommon place. He was able to look through my mask, he saw the cracks, and tried to fix the broken girl that hid away deep inside the girl who only wanted to be seen as 'fine'. I slowly began to find comfort and safety in him, and I did the same to him. We were two broken people becoming whole. Someone once said when you pass, if you can count your true friends on one hand you are beyond lucky, and I even though I did not like the person that lay before me, I know that he once had true friends, including me. I'm a 17 year old girl who has suffered more than any other, beginning to believe that 'Hope' was just another word the people throw around. Until I fell in love with a badboy. ! ! ! I wrote this story when young, it critically needs editing and correction which I'm trying to finish as fast as I possibly can. Either wait with reading it or suit yourself when you get to the 2017-chapters. adore you, x Michelle ♡ . • ➳ • . I'm gonna get him killed. Someday. Somehow. I'm gonna get him killed. And the worst part? He knows I will. "Turn this into a fucking game, I'm begging you to make a bet out of it, just to see how long you'll last trying to change it before you realize not only you, but no one can. Genie gives you three wishes? Not enough. Every single memory taken out of my brain? Still only got one reality. A gun to my head....? You'll know my last words even if I don't get to say them." "A gun to mine?" An enemies to dead lovers, if you may. "A gun to yours?" I fucking hate him. "We're not the kind that fear death, why?" I really fucking hate him. "We know it doesn't end anything, we know it starts everything. You think a gun to your head's gonna be the last? No, either we write a sequel together in hell, or you're gonna find me taking a relaxing bath in someone's blood." "Do you know what a gun to yours means?" "A gun to my head....?" "A gun to your head, means a gun in my hands." He smiles. "Take my last breath from me, and I'll give you my last words."
